Ayrshire in numbers One council, from its own published data

Holding power to account needs numbers, not just argument. North Ayrshire Council publishes its spending, and almost nobody reads it — because it arrives as spreadsheets. Here are two figures from it, updating themselves as the council publishes more. Every council in Scotland publishes something similar.

Neither number proves anything on its own. That is rather the point — they are a starting place for asking better questions, and anyone can check them against the source.
